[Richmond, B.C. – April 30, 2019] The BCSTA held their 115th Annual General Meeting at the Sheraton Vancouver Airport Hotel in Richmond, B.C. this past weekend. During the meeting, the Association’s membership voted for the 2019-20 BCSTA Board of Directors.

The following candidates were successfully elected to the board.

  • President: Stephanie Higginson – SD68 (Nanaimo-Ladysmith)
  • Vice-President: Carolyn Broady – SD45 (West Vancouver)
  • Past-President: Gordon Swan – SD58 (Nicola-Similkameen)
  • Directors: Valerie Adrian – SD74 (Gold Trail)
    • Tim Bennett – SD57 (Prince George)
    • Mike Murray – SD42 (Maple Ridge-Pitt Meadows)
    • Donna Sargent – SD38 (Richmond)

“I am honoured to have been acclaimed as our Association’s president this past weekend. I wish to sincerely thank all of those who ran, and considered running, for a position on our board,” said newly elected President Stephanie Higginson, who ran unopposed for the position. “Our Association remains strong with all 60 of B.C.’s boards of education represented in our membership, and I look forward to continuing to advocate for our members as we focus on putting the needs of our student’s first in everything we do. Our board has made great strides in the past year, and I believe our members have recognized these efforts through their choice to re-elect all members of our 2018-2019 board so that we may continue to build on the work we have started. I also wish to share my appreciation for Past-President Gordon Swan’s dedication and leadership. His past example and continued support will prove invaluable in the year ahead.”

Swan, who served as the Association’s president from 2017 to 2019, did not seek re-election as he will continue to hold a position on the board as past-president.

“My past two years serving as president of BCSTA, along with the 16 years spent leading at the provincial level, have afforded me some of the most rewarding experiences I have had as a trustee” said Swan. “I look forward to continuing to work with the board as past-president and am incredibly proud of what our board has accomplished since the last election took place one year ago. I am supremely confident that President Higginson will do an excellent job of leading our Association toward our goal of improving the learning outcomes of all of B.C.’s students.”

BCSTA would like to thank all those who submitted their names for election and ran for positions on the board.
