Greetings from the BC Teachers’ Federation!
BC teachers know the critical role school trustees play in shaping the public education system. As elected representatives with decision-making power, you are uniquely positioned to make positive change that will impact students across British Columbia. We know that you don’t take on these duties lightly and are likely drawn by a similar calling that we are—to support students through a foundational stage of life. As you begin your Annual General Meeting, I encourage you to consider what you can do to ensure school environments are properly staffed and resourced so teachers can provide students with the best education possible. I wish you all the best in your deliberations over the course of your meeting!

President
British Columbia’s school trustees play a critical role in delivering the public education that kids and families rely on, providing direct input and oversight on behalf of parents and communities. Your role as advocates with the provincial government, champions for your districts, and defenders of public education is so important to the kids and workers of today, and to the many generations to come.
CUPE members, both those that work in the system and the tens of thousands more who are parents and recent graduates, appreciate the dedication and commitment you bring to your roles, each and every day. On their behalf, we offer our thanks for your tireless and often uncelebrated work to uphold and improve our public education system.
A big thank you also to those trustees who are supporting public childcare in your districts. Your work is creating a better experience for our kids, providing family-sustaining childcare jobs, and delivering the high-quality care parents need for their families.
I wish you all the best for your conference and annual general meeting, and look forward to speaking with many of you at our CUPE BC reception on April 19, 2024 in the Stanley Park Ballroom.

On behalf of the First Nations Education Steering Committee, I wish the BCSTA and all school trustees the best for a successful annual general meeting. FNESC looks forward to working in close partnership with the BCSTA through our memorandum of understanding, signed during the 2022 AGM. This year, it is critical that we work jointly to support the successful implementation of recent changes to the School Act intended to improve the educational outcomes, attendance, and experience of First Nations learners attending public schools. Trustees play an important role in our collective efforts to advance reconciliation and we are proud to work in partnership with you in creating a safer and more equitable public education system.
